If your roof looks like it’s a couple decades old, the wear and tear are noticeable. Sometimes you can patch things up, but ultimately it’s going to need a replacement. In that case, you may actually waste money by attempting a repair.
Here are some tips for when you need to replace your roof with a new one:
- Leaky Roof – It is very common to be unaware that your roof is on the verge of failure, only to find out during a storm that your roof is leaking into your home. This is a homeowner’s worst nightmare, but it’s a situation that a professional handles all the time. Make sure your next roofing contractor is licensed to avoid a similar fate down the road!
- Shingle Wear – You may recognize noticeable wear and tear on your shingles, causing them to curl/not lay flat, become brittle or even fall off in some areas. Another sign is a shingle losing it’s “granules” with rain and snow storms, which will run off to your gutter, driveway or deck, signifying the time for updating.
- Seeing Daylight – Sometimes all it takes to spot a problem is going up into the attic during a sunny day. Doing so could uncover a small hole in the roof that is letting light, and most likely water, pass into the house.
- Wet or Moldy Wood – If your roof is allowing water to seep under the shingles each time it rains, there is a good chance the wood structure beneath will have ideal conditions for mold growth. You can catch this problem early if you locate unexplained wet spots in your attic.
